Welcome to the 333 70lb Club!

It’s a super exclusive, very swanky hang out open to only the most elite teams on the Tournament Trail. A place where members of team On Call stand just inside the velvet rope, perpetually guarding the entrance and showing off their 84 and a half pound 333 catch from back in 2019. Sure, it’s the heaviest 333 catch of all time. Sure, it deserves to be immortalized. But its been 4 years… It’s kinda messing up the carpet and its really starting to stink in there…

The first-ever 70lb 333 catch was boated by Balls Deep in 2006. Back then no one was even thinking about any kind of “club”. We all thought it was an anomaly. One of those records that would never be broken. Like Jerry Rice with over 22,000 career receiving yards, Wayne Gretzky with over 1900 career assists, the Boston Celtics with 8 straight NBA titles or Wilt Chamberlain with 100 points scored in a single game.

That’s some pretty good company to be in for the Balls Deep crew and for quite awhile it appeared to be true. Their 70lb mark stood alone atop the list of the heaviest 333 catches for 5 years. Then came 2011 and the need to turn this group of one into an actual club!

3 more teams accomplished the feat that year including Hammbone who posted 74.40lbs on 3 fish which shattered Balls Deep’s long standing record. In some ways it was bittersweet. Sure it was sign of hope on the Trail. A renewed feeling of excitement and the belief that anything was possible. But then I still remember the look on Chad Kozik’s face when he reallized that Jerry Rice had stopped taking his phone calls.

70lb Club Membership held firm at just 4 teams until 2013 when it jumped again with 7 new entries! A 4 year long dry spell would follow, but in 2017 membership started growing again. In fact, the club has welcomed new (and even some repeat) teams every season since then and has now grown to nearly 100 members! Plus, in 2019 four teams took things to the next level by posting 80 pound catches!

80 pounds on just 3 fish! Holy cow… does that mean we could see 90? Honestly, I’m a bit torn on that. It would be really cool, but it would also mean that I’d probably have to redesign this whole damn web page. Pros and cons I guess. Pros and cons…

While we certainly can’t know what will happen in the future, we can know that we are certain of what happened in the past. Here’s a look at the current membership of the 333 70lb Club in its entirety. Also known as the heaviest 333 catches of all time!
